Pirates are cooler than ninjas - Raising awareness of autism & Asperger Syndrome
 Portsmouth Project
Pirates are cooler than ninjas is focussed on supporting individuals who have high functioning Autism or Asperger Syndrome.  We support individuals in the following ways:

Adult Drop in Group
Meets every Monday evening.  On the first Monday evening of the month we use a leisure facility in the community.  This activity will support you to develop social skills.  On other Monday evenings we provide a safe environment for you to come along and talk to others who experience the same difficulties as you, therefore you can give and receive peer support. We're not boring!!!!  We use a nintendo wii, board games and other activities to release some of those every day pressures, but most of all we laugh a lot.

C.O.A.S.T.    14 years to 19 years Drop in Group
Meets every Saturday afternoon.  We have fun and laugh a lot!!!  We try our hand at cookery, to enable us to learn much needed independent living skills for the future.  We use the nintendo wii, we create collages as an art activity which enables us to express ourselves.

Carers Group
Meets the first Thursday of every month.  In this group we support carers to share their experiences which enables them to gain an understanding of the fact that they are not alone, that there are others in their own community who are facing the same everyday difficulties.

Training
We can deliver training that is tailored to meet the needs of people who support you.  To date we have trained social workers and other professionals who practice in social care, and in mental health services foster carers, hospitals, and offfender managers fromprobation services.  There is a charge for this service, however we are always happy to negotiate a cost that meets yours and our needs!!!
If you feel that you can benefit from attending any of the groups, or indeed if you have a workforce that would benefit from training which includes service user involvement then please don't hesitate to contact us.

If you wish to discuss any issue or statement that we have made, then please don't hesitate to contact us.
